Runrig are calling time on their recording career – but not before releasing one last studio album.
‘The Story’, due for release on 29 January 2016, will be supported by a 14-date tour that includes a show at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire on 26 February 2016.
Tickets for all dates are now available from bookingsdirect.com or from the 24 hour box office: 0844 338 000.
After celebrating their 40th anniversary in 2013, Runrig decided to embark on one final creative journey into the studio. The result is ‘The Story’, their fourteenth album.
“This is the band’s last studio recording, a hugely significant milestone for us all and one that we really want to celebrate,” says Rory McDonald, the band’s bass guitarist, backing vocalist, and an original founding member.
“There are many stories on the album but none more so than that of the band itself. It’s fair to say that a number of the songs have a definite reflective quality,” adds Calum MacDonald, percussionist, songwriter, and another original member.
The 11-track album, produced by Brian Hurrren who also provides keyboards, accordion, and backing vocals, even features contributions from the 32-piece Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.
“It was an incredible experience and it really helped to bring out the emotion in the songs,” explains Hurren.
Expect to hear some of those new songs when Runrig hit the road in 2016 – and for the foreseeable future. Although ‘The Story’ will be the last of their studio albums, the band are by no means throwing in the towel.
“We have a busy calendar next year and are planning the next two to three years already,” the band’s Iain Bayne explained on Twitter.
“We’re not done yet.”
