American blues rock band Simo, British blues rock guitar star Aaron Keylock, and British blues rockers Federal Charm are teaming up to tour the UK as Roadstars.
Starting off in Southampton on 16 November, the trek culminates in a show at O2 Islington Academy in London on 7 December 2016. Every night a different band will take the headline slot, giving each artist an equal opportunity to shine.
Hailing from Nashville, the power trio Simo have just released their album ‘Let Love Show the Way’, a fusion of blues, jazz, classic R&B, and southern rock, as evidence by the song ‘Stranger Blues’.
“We live and die by the take,” says singer-guitarist JD Simo of the album, the first to be recorded at what was the communal home of the Allman Brothers Band during their heyday. “We don’t edit, and if there are overdubs, they’re minimal. I want it to be unaffected and pure. For me, the music that always resonates most is when a performance is captured. That’s what I love, and that’s what we go for,” adds Simo who, on the album, plays Duane Allman’s 1957 gold-top Les Paul – as heard on the first two Allman Brothers LPs and Derek & the Dominoes’ ‘Layla’.
Aaron Keylock has just turned 18, but he’s already played over 200 shows, shared stages with the likes of Blackberry Smoke, and recorded his self-penned debut album in California with Fabrizio Grossi, known for producing legends like Billy F. Gibbons.
Due for release in early 2017, the LP references Keylock’s heroes Johnny Winter, The Faces, Rory Gallagher, Blackfoot, and T Rex.
“It’s the music I grew up with, it’s what I like, but you can’t base yourself on someone else. You’ve got to be inventive and see what comes out.”
Federal Charm’s sound has drawn comparisons to classic rockers – the Allmans to Led Zeppelin – and modern blues rockers including The Black Keys and Rival Sons.
The Manchester quartet – who have played opening slots for, amongst others, UFO, Michael Schenker, Ian Hunter, Rich Robinson, and Black Star Riders.- released their second album, ‘Across the Divide’, in October 2015.
Singer Nick Bowden, guitarist Paul Bowe, bassist LD Morawski, and drummer Danny Rigg are currently on a national tour in support of the LP, the follow-up to their 2013 debut.
