Tycho are returning to London for the first time since 2014.
The band, who release their new album ‘Epoch’ physically in January 2017, play Electric Brixton on 28 February.
Tickets are available now.
‘Epoch’, released online earlier this month, completes the trilogy of 2011’s ‘Dive’ and 2014’s ‘Awake’, honing the former’s sonic aesthetic while drawing on the kinetic energy of the latter. Exporing new musical territory and darker themes, the new album showcases the continued maturation of Scott Hansen’s project.
Produced and recorded by Hansen in his home studio, ‘Epoch’ was arranged with Zac Brown, his long-time collaborator in Tycho who also contributed guitar and bass parts, while Rory O’Connor played drums.
Hansen was keen to release the music as soon as it was ready instead of waiting for the physical release date.
“I’ve never been fond of handing in an album then waiting 4 months for it to be released. I wanted to be more connected to the people consuming the music. There is a kind of visceral fulfilment you get from sharing something that you’ve just created with other people. That’s a very satisfying feeling as an artist,” he explained.
“All art is in some way shaped by the current state of the world around the person creating it so there’s a element of zeitgeist built into any album. We just finished mastering the album so it will be a month old when people hear it. I’m hoping people get a sense that this music is directly connected to the time they are experiencing it in.”
