Black Country Communion go fourth

Black Country Communion are playing two special UK shows in January 2018 to celebrate the release of their forthcoming new album ‘BCC IV’.

The supergroup featuring singer/bassist Glenn Hughes, singer/guitarist Joe Bonamassa, drummer Jason Bonham, and keyboard player Derek Sherinian, play Wolverhampton Civic Hall on 2 January and London’s Hammersmith Apollo on 4 January – the only two concerts the band will play in the UK and Europe.

Planet Rock will run a 48-hour ticket pre-sale from 9 am on 2 August at www.planetrock.com. Tickets will then go on sale to the general public on 4 August at www.ticketmaster.co.uk and www.eventim.co.uk.

The band, which originally came together after producer Kevin Shirley saw Hughes and Bonamassa jam together onstage in Los Angeles in November 2009, will release their first studio album since 2013’s ‘Afterglow’ on 22 September.

“I just felt the time was right for Black Country Communion to go back into the studio and write and record a new album,” says Bonamassa on the band’s return. “When I contacted Glenn, Derek, and Jason, they immediately agreed to give it a shot. The timing was right.”

With Shirley in the producer’s chair, as he has been since their 2010 self-titled debut LP, the band assembled to record ‘BCC IV’ in December 2016, armed with songs Hughes and Bonamassa had specifically co-written for the new album.

“We had around 4 months to write this album, and I think the results speak for themselves,” comments Hughes. “All four of us wanted to make a record that stood up to the first three albums.

“However, the new album is more of a progression, as we wanted to be careful not to repeat the previous albums. A lot has happened since we last recorded the ‘Afterglow’ album in 2013, so, in many ways, the new album shows BCC with a much harder, riffier and bigger and bolder sound.

“If you’re looking for a folk album, this ain’t the one,” he explains.

“I wanted the new album to physically shake your soul. It’s a wake-up call.”
