Welshly Arms getting ‘Legendary’ at Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen

Welshly Arms have released the video for breakout single ‘Legendary’ ahead of their headline show at Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen in London next month.

The song, which has over 13 million streams on Spotify and been Shazamed more than 600 000 times in six months, conveys the Cleveland-based band’s drive to succeed.

“It’s about how there’s a payoff to all of that effort,” explains lead singer and guitarist Sam Getz, who’s fronted the blues-rock six-piece since they formed in 2013.

“In the beginning, it was inspired by [basketball player] LeBron James. He’s from the Cleveland area, and he ended up on our team. He always goes hard. That idea extends to music. The six of us leave everything on the court. We ignore the doubters, naysayers, and obstacles and just keep fighting.”

The band (also featuring Brett Lindemann on keyboards and vocals, Jimmy Weaveron bass and vocals, drummer Mikey Gould, and vocalists Bri and Jon Bryant) have been fighting the good fight since releasing their ‘Welcome EP’ in 2013. It was followed a year later by the ‘Covers EP’ and, in 2015, their self-titled debut LP. Songs from those releases ended up in commercials as well as trailers for movies like Quentin Tarantino’s ‘The Hateful Eight’. Meanwhile, out on the road, the band played iconic US stages like SXSW, Austin City Limits, and Red Rocks.

“I hope people notice what we put into this,” says Getz. “With every gig, we want to put on a show and have fun with the audience. On the records, I hope you can hear our enjoyment in making music. I want everybody to share that when they hear it.”

But that enjoyment isn’t the only thing apparent on their upcoming ‘Legendary EP’.

“We always try to keep a gritty soul edge with everything we do,” adds Getz.“The vocals stick out, and the music is deep and raw. We take pride in producing all of the recordings ourselves. It’s important to the sound.”

Welshly Arms perform at Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen on 12 September. Tickets are available from Ticketmaster.
