Wye Oak have released the first taste of their upcoming album, ‘The Louder I Call, The Faster It Runs’.
Due for release on 6 April, their fifth LP is preceded by the emotive title track, which will no doubt be part of their setlist when the duo play Village Underground on 3 May.
The album is the third that Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack have recorded since leaving Baltimore, where they originally formed the group. With Wasner now living in Durham, North Carolina and Stack in Marfa, Texas, they flew to one another’s cities for a week at a time.
During their short stints together, the pair worked on combining their individual song ideas and, with the time constraints involved, found themselves working in a more instinctual manner.
One of the biggest changes was their willingness to write songs using more than guitar and keyboard, which they’d always restricted themselves to in the past.
The results, they say, are “unabashed and unapologetic Wye Oak” and the “biggest, broadest, boldest music” they’ve ever made.
