Starset cross the universe

Starset | O2 Forum Kentish Town | 24 August 2017

Support bands have it tough. Thirty minutes, at the front of the stage is all they get. If they’re really lucky, their name’s on a banner draped somewhere behind them.

But there’s no need to feel sorry for Starset. Not only do they get almost an hour to play before Breaking Benjamin’s set, they’ve brought a production that would rival many headliners’ (including tonight’s). The perspex drum screen is the first giveaway. Their use of a live cellist, rather than synth patches, is the second.

The Slow Readers Club: Break these chains

The Slow Readers Club | O2 Forum Kentish Town | 6 May 2016

It sounds like the plot of a feel-good Hollywood movie: unsigned band, called up to the big leagues by resurgent indie legends, win over audiences’ hearts. But for The Slow Readers Club it’s their reality.

The Manchester quartet have been invited to support James on an extensive national tour that will see them play the largest venues of their career – rooms like Brixton Academy, Manchester Arena, and, tonight, The Kentish Town Forum. If they’re at all nervous, they don’t let on.

Cage The Elephant: Time flies by, they all sang along

Cage The Elephant | O2 Forum Kentish Town | 11 February 2016

There must be moments when Matt Shultz’s roadie wishes he worked for someone less energetic. Someone who’s not always moving, his microphone cable entangling  the monitors. Someone who’s not always dropping into the photo pit, his microphone cable reaching snapping point. Someone who’s not always leaping into the crowd, his microphone cable entwining with a writhing mass of body parts.
